Potential U.S. Senate candidate Maria Cantwell apparently didn't know that her own campaign treasurer donated money to Republican incumbent Slade Gorton -- Cantwell's possible rival. At the King County Democrats endorsement committee interview on March 20, Cantwell was asked how she felt about her treasurer, Keith Grinstein, contributing the maximum $2,000 to Gorton's campaign. Cantwell (who was being interviewed along with the other potential Democratic nominee, Deborah Senn), said she didn't know about Grinstein's double-cross.
Cantwell obviously doesn't read The Stranger. We reported the whole dumb affair last December ("Both Sides Now," Dec 16, 1999). Well, if we're not cool enough to be on Ms. Cantwell's radar, she's certainly not cool enough to get our support. Go Deborah, go! If an undying commitment to The Stranger doesn't seem like a fair litmus test, how about this: Cantwell told the King County Dems endorsement committe that she wants to woo the suburban vote.
