Rendezvous (Belltown)

2320 Second Ave
Seattle, WA 98121
(206) 441-5823
Website

A retro Belltown beauty, the Rendezvous exudes faded elegance. The booths in back are dark and deep, with peekaboo views of dusty chandeliers, patterned red wallpaper, and orange velvet drapes. The lighting makes everyone look one-third more attractive than in real life. Patrons—bohos, rockers, and regular types, both youthful and saggy-faced—seem friendly, unpretentious, and unlikely to be crazed partying asshats. The menu includes sandwiches, burgers, and so forth, though people come here to drink, not eat. The adjoining Jewel Box Theater offers varied, unconventional entertainment.

not totally infested

The 'vous is a bit of real belltown, left over from before the yuppie-tarts and their over-tanned guido followers completely overran the 'town.

I Remember Too!

Yeh - I remember too: stepping in human shit while loading in / watching a guy get beat up with a tire iron by crackheads in the back alley / having only a tiny amount of usable space on stage / no greenroom / no access to the AV booth because Wayne couldn't be bothered to clean the place up... Not to mention non-edible food and sweltering heat in the Jewel Box. While I do miss some of the old characters and the old bartenders were true gems - I think the new owners have gone to great lengths to keep most of the atmosphere while improving on the more disgusting elements. As a NON-trustfund artist who has played there several times over the past 15 years, it is way more artist/musician friendly -ask anybody who's experienced both owners...

Been there many of times and love it!

Top notch! I totally love it, and the nitwits that posted their garbage of slamming above forget them and just read over what they wrote! :)

I remember...

I have to say I agree with Kinkos. The old Rendezvous was an incredible peak into old booze culture. As a person in a band it was great also, because for a small fee you could rent the theater and have a show. Did that for a Stranger holiday party back in 1999 or 2000. The Cripples, Starfish Petting Zoo, and another band I forget (sorry!) That place was the real deal. The new one does not impress me.

A Jewel

Like the name of its theater, this place is a jewel. This is a place where you can meet interesting people doing interesting things with their lives. Great drinks, not pretentious, food is the best for its price in downtown/belltown. Lots of interesting shows in the Jewel Box Theater.

no, no, no, no, no!

i'm sorry, but this place is such a deep, sucking, offensive abomination. every time i go to the NEW rendezvous, i nearly become teary-eyed because i remember the OLD, REAL rendezvous before the polo shirt mafia, trust fund "artist" community, and after-work "hip" microsoft sycophants, moved in and ruined this place. on any given night these days, you'll find one person whose eyeglass frames cost more than you could shake out of the pockets of the entire old rendezvous (er, except the drug dealers i guess). i'm sorry, it may now have burlesque (isn't that fad over now?), "strong" drinks, and all that - but i just can't stomach the place. lose all self-respect ye who enter here, as you're defiling a sacred place. so, so sad... the new rendezvous is a big stinking steaming pile of shit on what was "old seattle", and every customer of the new place is complicit in adding to the mess...

As real as it gets

I've been to the Rendezvous a couple of times and had a blast, really strong drinks and good food(calamari, pork loin, burgers) Good bartenders that seem to have a pretty loose attitude and will put you in your place if you act foolish. The weekends seem to get an overflow of 1st ave yuppies but it's never a meat market like next doors Viceroy and Karma. This place is also haunted according to many patrons but i've yet to see anything weird.
