Everything a music documentary should be, Gypsy Caravan celebrates the diversity of Romany culture (some consider the word "Gypsy" derogatory). Ostensibly a look at an American tour, director Dellal provides greater context and elicits more meaning than the average concert film. Aside from footage of the acts on stage—some shot by Albert Maysles—she travels to Romania, Macedonia, Spain, and India to learn more about the performers. They speak different languages, play different styles of music (flamenco, raga, etc.), but all are gloriously, unapologetically Roma.
