Dir. Jessica Yu
In the follow-up to her Henry Darger documentary, In the Realms of the Unreal, Jessica Yu interviews four people: a gay ex-televangelist, a reformed bank robber, a former German terrorist, and a high-school geek turned martial artist. What connects them is that each were devoted, coltishly, to their respective groups, and had to make a break. Yu adds a lofty framework with quotes from Euripides acted out by cool-ass wooden-rod puppets, but it’s the subjects themselves who make this movie work.
