What to See This Week

Final week. Hunker down.

Together (Wed June 13, Egyptian, 7:15 pm; Sun June 17, Harvard Exit, 6:30 pm)--When a middle-class mother and her bourgeois kids invade a collective of Swedish hippies, the result is surprisingly funny, warm, and uplifting.

Baise-Moi (Rape Me) (Wed June 13, Egyptian, 9:30 pm; Sat June 16, Egyptian, midnight)--Controversially graphic French film about a couple of vigilante porn stars on the road. Not for the easily offended. Maybe not even for the not so easily offended.

Out of the Closet, Off-Screen: The William Haines Story (Wed June 13, Broadway Performance Hall, 9:30 pm; Thurs June 14, Broadway Performance Hall, 5 pm)--Documentary about Hollywood's first openly gay star, by the makers of The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Plays with Haines' campy Western, Way Out West.

Fugitives (Thurs June 14, Harvard Exit, 7:15 pm; Sun June 17, Egyptian, 6:30 pm)--Emotionally brutal Spanish story of a woman and a kid (not hers) on the run from killers after being left for dead on the side of the road by an evil boyfriend.

Filmmaker's Forum: What's a Film Critic For? (Fri June 15, Broadway Performance Hall, 1 pm)--Ah, the big question... I sure hope they can answer it, 'cause I certainly can't.

Disco Pigs (Fri June 15, Harvard Exit, 7:15 pm; Sat June 16, Pacific Place, 4 pm)--Two wee Irish lasses wreak violent havoc on a farm with no twinge of remorse. Based on Enda Walsh's play.

Ghost World (Sat June 16, Egyptian, 9:30 pm; Sun June 17, Egyptian, 1:45 pm)--At long last, Terry Zwigoff's hotly anticipated adaptation of Dan Clowes' epochal comic about the listless inner life of teenagers in an everytown (I always thought it was Olympia) where all the townspeople are so jaded they don't even know if they're ironic or not. But who will play Bob Skeetes?!?

The Princess and the Warrior (Sun June 17, Egyptian, 4 pm)--Tom Twyker's follow-up to the riveting narrative shorthand of Run Lola Run, again starring the potent Franka Potente.
