New York Rangers forward Sean Avery, 31, was arrested at his Hollywood Hills home on allegations he shoved a police officer. Avery—who was suspended from the NHL in 2008 for making crude comments about his ex-girlfriends, actresses Elisha Cuthbert and Rachel Hunter, and who is the namesake of the "Avery Rule," a penalty for waving one's hands and stick in front of a goalie's face—was booked on suspicion of battery of a police officer, and released seven hours later after posting $20,000 bail. Former New Jersey Devils and St. Louis Blues left winger Mike Danton, 30, signed a minor-league hockey contract in Sweden after being released from prison on a murder-for-hire conviction. Danton had pled guilty to trying to hire a hit man to kill his agent David Frost, but insists the real target was his estranged father. Testifying at his own drunk driving trial, former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Rick Vaive, 52, the first Leaf to score more than 50 goals in a season, said he did not know why he told police, "Not today, I had one beer," when asked whether he'd had any alcohol. "That's alcohol," the officer reportedly explained. Vaive testified he actually drank six beers.
