St. Dames Cafe (Columbia City)
4525 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S
Seattle, WA 98108
Located right by the Columbia City light rail stop, St. Dames is a savior. Its burgundy walls, horseshoe-shaped booths, and bountiful candlelight are romantic, dramatic, and even a little gothic. (If the religious kitsch and the electronic pop soundtrack clash a bit with the vibe, no one seems to mind.) The menu is a haven of vegetarian and vegan comfort food, with the hush puppies, a portobello mushroom "cheese stake" sandwich, and vegan mac and cheese hailed as minor miracles by the non-meat-eating sect. There's also (thank god) a full bar, with drinks like a muddled fresh-pear cocktail or a margarita made with jalapeño-infused tequila and muddled pomegranate seeds (virgin on request).
Hours: Tues-Thurs 4:30 pm-10 pm, Fri 4:30 pm-midnight, Sat 9 am-3 pm and 5 pm-midnight, Sun 9 am-3 pm
