  • The Belltown space that long held Cascadia is now home to this restaurant/bar owned and operated by Grupo Lezama, a fancy and well-reputed Spanish restaurant chain founded by Catholic priests. Taberna del Alabardero specializes in tapas (there's a four-page menu for the small plates alone), but also offers entrees at both lunch and dinner, with a focus on ambitious seafood dishes, from stuffed squid to broiled monkfish. On the turf side, there's oxtail, pigs' feet, veal cheeks, and crispy suckling pig. There are roughly three options for non-meat-eaters, but they look as good as the rest.

A year ago my partner and I went to Spain on a culinary adventure. To celebrate the anniversary we tried Taberna today (mid-May). EVERYTHING was spot on. Delicious, dreamy food, impeccable service and a beautiful setting. We loved it and will be back for sure!

On top of the great food and awesome happy hour, the owner Paco Pena, might just be one of the nicest people you will ever meet.

Great Paella

We ate at Taberna on a Saturday night in March 2009. The setting is lovely and the kitchen can be seen through a wall of glass. The wait staff is very professional. For our entree we shared the squid ink paella which was exellent. We've eaten paella throughout Spain and Europe and can say that the paella at Taberna was comparable to the best. A wonderful meal!
