Green star Tango Restaurant & Lounge (Capitol Hill)

1100 Pike St
Seattle, WA 98101

Website

Tango, perched between Capitol Hill and downtown, is upscale without being pushy or slick about it. It's posh but comfortable, and the tapas and other Spanish favorites are reliably good. The high-backed wooden booths in the bar are always full, and the crowd is cute and varied. The happy-hour menu includes discounted tapas and mojitos, and on Monday nights all bottles of wine are half price.

A star for being open on Labor Day.

But really...just don't. The menu, if it has ever changed, seems fixed in the mid-nineties (much like the lame lounge-y club music they play). You can tell the kitchen staff is bored with it & doesn't care if your lamb is charred to hell. Speaking of the lamb chops, four chops gives you about three bites of meat & under-done potatoes for $19. Tango, change or die already.

I wish I lived next door...

but I'd be morbidly obese. The queso fundido is fantastic and they have an imaginative cocktail lineup. My #1 Capitol Hill special occasion choice.

Excellent service and good food

I have enjoyed Tango four times in the last six months. I was a bit hesitant with all the reviews I had read off a number of review sites. But most were over a year old so I took the plunge. I was not only surprised but was completely overwhelmed by the great service, (a complaint in most of the reviews) the well assembled menu, and the awesome wines. And yes they have some great wines from all over but it is the Spanish wines that are a treat. I will say it isn't a true tapas restaurant but it works well with what they do have. It is a bit pricey, but I will say not any more so than any other good restaurant in the city. I have been when they first opened their doors as well as in the midst of full dinner rush and both times the service was excellent. When you go let me suggest El Diablo for dessert along with a great glass of Port!

Oh Woe is Tango.........,

Tango used to be a fantastic place. Great food, good crowd and a killer late night spot. Now it seems that in that past year or so it has changed. Apparrently there is a new owner who is doing his best to turn Tango into a Red Robin. The wine list is still amazing, when they have what is on the list. The food portions have gotten smaller, but have increased in price. Tango used to have a well versed and knowledgeable staff that seems to now have been replaced by inexpereienced rejects from other corporate places. Our server, who felt obligated to tell me her name even though I could care less, mistakenly brought me a bottle of white wine instead of the Cava we ordered and two cabernet glasses to go with the wrong bottle. Thankfully, a more senior server stepped in and corrected the situation. I have been going to Tango for several years and as of now, I will no longer go. All in all, I guess the Queso Funidido is still good(despite the addition of cream cheese) and the cheap dates still astonish. The new staff members are young and have lots to learn(you can see their deer in the headlights look in their eyes as they lie to you and try to answer questions). Don't waste your money or your time. Harvest Vine is way better and they have all the wines on their list. Pass up this Tango.

it's a win every time!

i've always enjoyed my visits to tango's. mondays are crazy busy. 1/2 off the bottle doesn't really make this place any cheaper. the prices are definately $$ and their portions are kinda small... but their food is unique and truly delicious. it's a perfect place for going solo, dates, or w/ friends. they have a nice bar to sit at and the music is nice. this is not a parking friendly location.

Walking by and seeing everyone...

in there enjoying their meals makes me wonder why I'm not there too. Something for everyone! I like to order a lot of little things and share. The starter bread is fabulous, I got seconds. ;) The melted cheese with fruit and breads is quite so good I have cravings. A good mix of light and heavy, spicy and cool. A wonderful date place!
