I love this place.

The $3 sandwich is the best price on the Ave! The staff are extremely friendly, and sticking around to eat a full meal is an awesome experience if you have the time to work your way through the generous portions. Any way you cut it, Thanh Vi is the best.

I'll second that!

Great food, nice people, and they have Sriracha, chili garlic sauce, AND homemade hot chili oil.

Need I say more?

Delicious Fresh Rolls

This is by far the best lunch spot on the Ave. I work in the U-district and frequent Thanh Vi often for their large vegetarian menu. The waitress calls everyone "sister" or "brother" and if you go more than twice, she will remember you. The one time that my food took a while to prepare (it was lunch hour and packed) she gave me and my dining companions free green tea.

A treasure. Yes, it is.

Yes, it is inexpensive and the food is really quite good (the sandwiches, the pho, the spring rolls). But, my friends, it is the host/waitress who you will love. She is sweet and kind and just...just...an adorable human.

Oh so pho friendly

Thanh Vi drew me in because the Vietnamese women cooking behind the little counter were genuinely friendly. I ordered the DIY spring rolls with pork, shrimp, and fried spring roll (about $8-9 with tax and tip). 5 rehydrated spring roll wrappers came out on cute, stacked plastic trays, along with a massive tray of vermicelli, lettuce, carrots, sprouts, cilantro, basil, cucumber, and meats. Making them is fun and messy-several men stared at me as I wrapped with abandon, licking my fingers. Pretty standard vietnamese, but cheap, yummy, and the staff are super sweet and hospitable. Felt like I was dining with friends.

Best sandwich on the Ave.

I work in the U-District and have concluded that Thanh Vi's pork bahn mi is the best sandwich on the Ave. The other food is good, too, but who can pass up grilled pork, cilantro, julienned carrot and cuke, mayo and (extra) siracha for less than $3? The owners are very friendly, too.
