The Catechism Cataclysm: A Goofy Priest, a Bizarre Canoe Trip, and a Whole New Type of Comedic Weirdness
Written and directed by Todd Lohal and featuring a variety of Northwest film talent (including cinematography by Ben Kasulke), The Catechism Cataclysm is a super-duper weird comedy about a wayward priest, a washed-up roadie, and the stories they share over a weekend canoe trip. It’s a big, weird mess, involving a handful of scenes rich with hilarious weirdness and a handful of scenes that don’t add up to much, but if you have a soft spot for crazy fucked-up indie comedy, you should see it. Best in show is Steve Little, whose lead turn as the kooky priest is brilliant, and feels like something new in the world of comedy: a stoner type who doesn’t smoke and is seemingly invested by God with the power to creep out the entire world. Your face will hurt from the weirdness.
