FRIDAY 6/13

BLOWING THE PONY

I always tend to think of Blowpony (which is not to be confused with just regular old Pony, regardless of how much blowing may or may not happen there—FEED THE CLOWN!) as a Portland thing, but I just love it, love it, love it when she occasionally blows into town. It's been going on since 2007, which is practically eons in queer-club-night years, so they've gotta be doing something right, and by "something," of course I mean FUCKING EVERYTHING—electric live acts mixed with superstar DJs and sexy, sexy queers of every conceivable genus, phylum, and/or stripe. It is a delicious concoction indeed! This installment brings my perennial favorites Glitterbang, but the headliner is a New York City band called SSION (pronounced "shun"? Okay, whatevs), and Double Duchess will be blowing your face off, too, with sets by DJs Airick X (who created the event) and our good friend Nark. Chop Suey, 9 pm, $12 adv/$15 DOS, 21+.

SATURDAY 6/14

NO MORE BACON

Oh, Bacon Strip. Such times we've had! The old gal is the longest-running queer variety show in the history of life, as far as anyone is aware, and she's been bounced from hell to breakfast (R Place, Re-bar's place, the old Broadway Grill, finally landing at Theatre Off Jackson waaaaay out in the International District), and she's retired more times than Cher. Remember before they got actual seats and people had to sit on the floor? Remember her golden age, with foul-mouthed Maxine Delacunt and Jinkx Monsoon before Jinkx got world-famous? Good times. But it is time for the gal to go tits up again, and this time it's presumably for good. (Don't hold me to that—this thing has more lives than Lazarus's cat.) Let's all come out one last time to ogle James and Kerry Darling, thrill to the trailer-park filth that is Honey Bucket, give Sylvia a big ol' kiss on the cheek, and put this show out to pasture before she breaks a hip. Theatre Off Jackson, 10 pm, $10 adv/$12 DOS, 21+.

SUNDAY 6/15

MATCH GAME GETS SO GAY

Speaking of endings and Re-bar (now under new management!) and Cher, this is the very lastest and gayest Match Game of the season, and it's a pre-Pride celebration episode. (Cher really doesn't have anything to do with it, I just enjoy talking about her. Yay, Cher!) It stars all of the usual suspects: Gary Gloryhole (filthy), Jackie Hell (crazazy), Justin Beaver, Nelson Heston Riley, and so forth, so get your BLANK to BLANK, or I'll BLANK you in the BLANK. Hosted by Richard Rugburn. Re-bar, 7:30 pm, $10, 21+. recommended
