With opposition candidate Dennis Kucinich shutting up and endorsing Kerry, it's obvious the Democrats are united as never before in their seething animosity toward Bush. This has freed Kerry to tack right for this week's "patriotism and strength" convention, where his goal is to sway the pool of swing voters (about 17 percent of the current electorate) and win back white males (the so-called Kerry Republicans). The battle for this valuable block got off to a promising start at the top of convention week when Kerry's wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, set the stage for Kerry to go macho, telling a reporter to "shove it."--JF
