Renee Erickson's the Whale Wins shares a huge warehouse space on Stone Way with Joule and an upscale outdoors emporium. It feels a little like a stage set for a European cafe, but a lovely one, and all the goodness that everyone who adores Erickson’s restaurants (Boat Street Cafe, the Walrus and the Carpenter) has come to expect may be found here. Almost everything is wood-fired, and while the menu may seem simple, north African flavors add interest. Of note: marrow bones, served standing up and sizzling hot, and a whole trout, deboned and crispy, resting on a bed of super-delicious walnut sauce.
Hours: Mon-Sat 11 am-10 pm, Sun 11 am-9 pm
