Restaurant Details

  • The ideal destination for a healthy vegan brunch or lunch. The biscuits and gravy are addictive—especially with the salty kick of broiled tofu on top. Should you need a little color in there among the browns, there are collard greens, which have a tangy, vinegary smack that is exactly right, and whole-corn grits.
  • Features: Breakfast/Brunch, Cheap Eats and To Go
  • Cuisine: Hippie-Dippie and Vegetarian
  • Serving Hours: Daily 9 am-3 pm

THANK YOU SANTA

.....the globe is closing! This has been my Christmas Wish every year since I quit years ago. I've never endured such verbal abuse, and I've been through boot camp. Oh, and all you adoring customers? He generally trashed you all in a drunken rage after the doors closed. Is a negative star rating possible?

Where will the vegans go?...

We were in the Globe the day of a ridiculous...I mean ridiculous fight between the owner and an employee. We left and as we were walking out complaining this guy overheard us and told us to go up the street to Wayward on 55th and 9th. They have no grits...which I love but their biscuits and gravy were very tasty. I'm surprised I've never eaten there before. It's collectively run and the people seemed nice enough to go back. It seemed to be a place of little drama.

The owner is a jerk.

I used to frequent the Globe a lot, however I have discovered that the Owner is often drunk and treats his employees like shit. Not only does he yell at them, he also hits on every guy who works there. The food is good, but not good enough to compensate for the shitty working conditions of the employees.

Gonna Have a Ball Tonight...

...Down at The Globe. Just order something that comes with gravy... seriously, The Globe has the best gravy i've ever tasted. Sometimes you want vegan food food for breakfast that is American traditional. And for that, you can't go wrong here. Oh, and I did go to The Globe on Thanksgiving day once -- trying to avoid a holidy meal -- but they won me over with their Thanksgiving platter. So keep that in mind this November...

Vegan Thanksgiving can be every day...

if you order the Globe's open-faced tofu sandwich. Luscious mushroom gravy tops perfectly browned slices of tofu on top of de-licious herb onion bread. And mashed potatoes - OH YES! And cranberry sauce - OH HELL YES! And Michael is a hoot and a holler. Love it.

Seriously, what planet are you guys from?

How could the Globe possibly have such low reviews? I agree with the below poster in saying that I've never had a meal that was over-salted at the Globe, and the claiming that they don't use vegetables is just absurd. The Globe has some of the best vegan food I have ever eaten, and while I was away from Seattle for two years I thought about it all the time. I immediately went to the Globe upon returning to the city. Every dish is absolutely delicious, and everyone I've ever taken there agrees. If you have the biscuits and gravy, and you should, you probably will wind up ordering it every time you go there. But you should try other items as well. And the coffee is my favorite in the city. Go to the Globe now.

Voice of Reason

As a vegan and a lover of funky places to eat, I love the Globe. I cannot understand how the three commenters before me came to their unfortunate conclusions. I have never found the food to be too salty (I often add salt to my tofu scramble). I don't even know where a "nice plate of potatoes with tofu on top and pasta on the side" even comes from, for there is certainly no dish like that at the Globe. Most importantly of all, it does NOT give vegan food a bad name. Rather, the Globe proves that as a vegan you can still thoroughly enjoy a nice, hearty breakfast if you so desire. Not many vegan restaurants serve breakfast, no less provide delicious flapjacks, cinnamon rolls, french toast...etc. I do not think that this restaurant is some kind of place that only a vegan could love. I have many omnivore friends who hold the Globe in high regard. So definately give it a try... I think you'll be pleased.

Salty. Very Salty...

Just because you don't use animal products doesn't mean you have to overcompensate with salt. But they do have a piano!

Hello? Ever heard of vegetables?

If you're looking for a nice plate of potatoes with tofu on top and pasta on the side, you've come to the right place. If you like fresh food, run away.

Quite Possibly the Most Awful Place Ever

My girlfriend and I had brunch at the globe a year or two ago and it was quite possibly the nastiest most disgusting meal we've shared in this fair city. It gives vegan food a bad name (vegan food can be and usually is quite good, but a proliferation of crappy places like this ruin that reputation). I'd rather eat a sweat sock at the back of the #43 bus for breakfast than eat here again. It's that awful.
