good times at the galway

isn't it really odd that there are two irish bars right across the street from each other in the u district? if you're a huge hardcore drunk on a shoestring budget, the galway is for you. i have spent more time and money in this place than i'd care to admit and while it's changed some over the years, it's still pretty solid if you're in that neck of the woods. hit the knarr after you get your buzz on at the galway for a sure ticket to blackout city.

Okay place to hang-out

The food is super greasy, don't order it. The beer selection is okay. Best thing about this place is their selection of pinball. Good, classic Seattle Dive, unpretentious, friendly service, there's worse places you could hang out in the UD.

This place sucks

This bar used to be a great Irish bar, small quaint, good music, but now it's as dirty as the punk ave rats that infest the place, and the worst part is the bartenders. If you're not a regular or dressed like you live in London in 1980 you might as well f off for all they care and go across the street to the Irish Immigrant, where they don't treat their customers like crap.

Take it from a Regular

When I need a place to drink in the U-District without being surrounded by obnoxious, sloppy drunk frat-things, the Galway is there for me. We've a very pleasant but very insular crowd, and I could see how you might not like it if you aren't a regular. They upgraded the menu recently, and the quality of the live music (mostly punk and metal) is starting to improve.

a dive, but a great dive at that ...

if you are looking for the fewest number of students, the best (and cheapest) happy hour burger in the udistrict, friendly bartenders, and place with some semblance of musical sense, the galway is for you. i've lived in the udistrict as a non-student for years and was miserable before i found this bar. thank fucking god for the galway.

C'mon, it's the galway

Well, i have been going to the galway for about five years now, and i've never had a problem with the change. Maybe a little bit, here and there, but it's still the fucking galway, and they still have $1 PBRs on tuesdays. Most of the people i hang out with there have been regulars for a long time as well, and we bitch about it sometimes, but you still can't beat it.

Why the hell are you calling this a college/sports bar?

Has the person who wrote this summary on the Kraken ever even been there? I'm guessing not.

This is not a college bar and it is not a sports bar. It's a neighborhood bar (like the Monkey or Cafe Racer) that also hosts a lot of local punk and metal shows.

Used to be a lot rougher around the edges (greasy food, occasionally hostile service) but under the new ownership the menu has greatly improved and it's a little easier to blend in if you're not a longtime regular or dressed like a hesher.
