Headed by Ian Roberts (a founder of Seattle Beer Week and former Brouwer's bar manager) and occupying the location of the deceased Chapel, the Pine Box enlivens its (gorgeous) mortuary setting with more than 30 beers on tap, plus a menu created in consultation with the great Scott Carsberg (Lampreia, Bisato). Carsberg's not actually in the kitchen, so results can vary, but the pizza is really good, and the short rib—a Flintstones-sized block of meat served with tzatziki and a shiitake/Parmesan hand pie—is outstanding. Mostly, with its leaded glass windows, enormous mirrors, ornate woodwork, vaulted ceiling, and antique fixtures, the Pine Box works marvelously as a beer hall. It's loud and lovely and a lot of fun.

Great service, excellent taps, and good food.

I'm pleased that the replacement for Chapel came with a similar laidback vibe, the beer choices are excellent, the snacks are tasty (I've tried the Pizza and jalapeno hummus so far) and I don't know what "Prettygurlzmyname!" is babbling about, the waitstaff was friendly and the management has been visible and professional in the four or so times I've visited. Considering they offered no actual details, I'll chalk that up to someone disgruntled for other reasons.

Pretty sure the manager was drunk last night while working... Don't recommend this place!
