OPENING AND CURRENT RUNS

ART

CLITORIS CELEBRATION

Final week. "Sloppy non sequiturs, redundant observations, and crude theatrics make for an amateurish production. As worthy as her subject may be, the show lacks a coherent through-line and seems awfully light on facts. Clitoris Celebration is in very bad need of an editor and a director." (Jeff Meyers) Northwest Actors Studio, 1100 E Pike St, second floor, 325-6500. $15. Fri at 8 pm, Sat at 2 and 8 pm. Through April 26.

EVEN STEVEN GOES TO WAR

Final week. A child meets his grandfather, a Vietnam vet declared missing in action, and somehow this leads them to "discover... the meaning of friendship" in this world-premiere play by Allison Gregory. Bathhouse Theater, 7312 W Green Lake Dr N, 524-1300. $10-$18. Thurs-Sat at 7:30 pm, Sun at 2 pm. Through April 27.

GIGI

Opening. The root of perhaps the most uncannily creepy showtune of all time ("Thank Heaven for Little Girls"), Lerner and Loewe's classic musical is undertaken by Seattle's Civic Light Opera. Seattle Civic Light Opera at Jane Addams Summit School Auditorium, 11051 34th Ave NE, 363-2809. $20-$30. Opens Thurs April 24 at 8 pm. Fri-Sat at 2 and 8 pm, Sun at 2:30 pm. Through May 17.

* GO, DOG. GO!

Word on the street says this shit's got the kiddies cracking up like there's no tomorrow. Get super high and join the fun. Seattle Children's Theatre, 201 Thomas St, 441-3322. $12.50-$19.50. Fri at 7 pm, Sat-Sun at 2 and 5:30 pm. Through May 4.

* GO THERE

Opening. See Stranger Suggests. Re-bar, 1114 Howell St, 323-0388. $13. Thurs-Sat at 8 pm. Through May 24.

HAIR

Go for the brief nudity--stay for the "message." The closest thing to a rock musical before Hedwig. 5th Avenue Theatre, 1308 Fifth Ave, 625-1418. $25. Tues-Wed at 7:30 pm, Thurs-Sat at 8 pm, Sat at 2 and 8 pm, Sun at 2 and 7:30 pm. Through May 4.

* HERBERT WEST: RE-ANIMATOR

Final week. "This wonderfully wicked little delight has plenty of screaming, retching, and sobbing, along with yammering severed heads, homoerotic undertones, and the reckless use of needle drugs. The acting is skillful and the tale inherently full of dark humor--as any quality horror story should be. Two severed heads, way, way up." (Adrian Ryan) Open Circle Theater, 429 Boren Ave N, 382-4250. $12. Thurs-Sat at 8 pm. Through April 26.

* THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO

Final week. "Despite a disappointment in the bottom of the dramatic ninth, Ballyhoo is captivating, and Taproot's production boasts a spit 'n' polish shine, with a stellar set, precise acting, and commendable direction." (Brendan Kiley) Taproot Theatre Company, 204 N 85th St, 781-9707. $10-$26. Wed-Thurs at 7:30 pm, Fri at 8 pm, Sat at 2 and 8 pm. Through April 26.

MUSEUM

This week only. The closing date of a prestigious visual art show sets the scene for a cast of patrons and stragglers as their personal dramas unfold. Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway Ave, 726-5011. $5-$8. Thurs-Fri at 8 pm, Sat at 2 and 8 pm. Through April 26.

NORA

The year 2003 is simply queasy with Ibsen adaptations. This time it's Ingmar Bergman's revision of the controversial A Doll's House, Henrik's deconstruction of holy matrimony. Intiman Theatre, Seattle Center, 269-1900. $27-$42. Tues-Thurs at 7:30 pm, Fri at 8 pm, Sat at 2 and 8 pm, Sun at 2 and 7:30 pm. Through May 18.

* PARROT FEVER (OR, LIES I'VE TOLD IN CHAT ROOMS)

"Keri Healey's latest gem is simply a solid piece of theater. Parrot Fever is moving, funny, erotic, and repulsive by turns--a paean to the lonely who cadge and sleaze their way through the seamy (and sometimes steamy) corners of the Internet." (Brendan Kiley) Ethereal Mutt at Union Garage, 1418 10th Ave, 352-1777. $12. Thurs-Sat at 8 pm. Through May 3.

POLAROID STORIES

Opening. Mythological allegories of street life, as based on Ovid's Metamorphosis. Capitol Hill Arts Cooperative, 1621 12th Ave, 508-0728. $10-$12. Fri-Sat at 7 pm through May 3; Fri-Sat at 10 pm May 9-10. Through May 10.

RUTHLESS! THE MUSICAL

Opening. A satire (in song) of stage stars, featuring Mark Finley. ArtsWest Playhouse, 4711 California Ave SW, 938-0339. $10-$24. Wed-Sat at 7:30 pm; 3 pm matinees May 3, 11, 17. Through May 17.

* SEA-SAW

Final week. "Like Curtis Taylor's other cabaret-style productions, Sea-Saw has a great deal of visual brilliance in its scenery: the dense, shimmering forest, the lonely grandeur of a clear-cut, the gaping maw of a half-cut tree. You won't soon forget these images, not least because there are lumberjacks in front of them, gleefully twirling their axes like so many unburdened teenaged cheerleaders. Innocent, indeed." (Emily Hall) Rendezvous, 2322 Second Ave, 411-5823. $15. Fri-Sat at 8 pm. Through April 26.

SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK

Final week. Wait--have we stumbled upon a Renaissance fair? Why is everyone talking like that? The kids at Cornish take a crack at hypothermia with their renditions of Troilus and Cressida and Pericles. Cornish College Theater Department at Volunteer Park, 726-5011. Free. Fri-Sun, call for specific showtimes. Through April 27.

THE SHAKESPEARE STEALER

Based on the children's novel of the same name, director Rita Giomi presents an Elizabethan tale of friendship and theft. Seattle Children's Theatre, 201 Thomas St, 441-3322. $12-$26. Fri at 7 pm, Sat-Sun at 2 and 5:30 pm. No shows the weekend of May 23. Through June 15.

THE SICKEST F***ING STORIES I EVER HEARD

"Perhaps I misunderstand the point of this theatrical exercise, but it seems the 'audience' pays seven dollars to see 'actors' just, well, hanging out. Since when did that become an object of spectacle rather than participation?" (Brendan Kiley) Northwest Goga Theatre at Rendezvous, 2322 Second Ave, 411-5823. $8. The fourth Thursday of every month at 9 pm. Through May 22.

SOME LIKE IT HOT

Opening. Tony Curtis, now pushing 80, returns to perhaps his most famous work in a stage adaptation of Billy Wilder's classic. God willing, he'll keep the tights in retirement. Paramount Theatre, 911 Pine Street, 628-1414. $20-$58. Tues-Fri at 8 pm, Sat at 2 and 8 pm, Sun at 2 and 7:30 pm. Through May 4.

* THE SPEED OF DARKNESS

Final week. "This is a difficult work, and in less capable hands, the knife might have shied from painful truths or slipped into melodrama, but director Jerri Lee Young and her uniformly excellent cast kept the blade steady and true." (Tamara Paris) Fool's Cathedral at Velocity MainSpace Theater, 915 E Pine St, second floor, 325-8773. $15. Thurs-Sat at 8 pm, Sun at 7 pm. Through April 27.

THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE

See review this issue. Seattle Repertory Theatre, 155 Mercer St, 443-2222. $32-$46. Tues-Fri at 7:30 pm, Sat-Sun at 2 and 7:30 pm. Through May 25.

WRECK THE AIRLINE BARRIER

The passengers and flight crew of an airliner wax unpleasant in a desperate, pandering attempt to alienate their audience with oft-detailed "strong adult situations, language, and racial slurs." Browbox Productions at Rainier Valley Cultural Center, 3515 S Alaska Way, 325-6500. $10-$15. Fri-Sat at 9:11 (get it?) pm. Through May 3.

THE YELLOW WALLPAPER

Final week. "The short Charlotte Perkins Gilman story from which this play was adapted has been a staple in women's studies syllabi for ages. Unfortunately, with this adaptation's consistently flat dialogue, it merely hangs on the wall." (Gregory Zura) Theater Schmeater, 1500 Summit Ave, 325-6500. $12-$15. Thurs-Sat at 8 pm. Through April 26.
