Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim have built a nationwide web of devotees with their sweet, surreal, stubbornly idiosyncratic comedy. Rather than laugh-out-loud funny, Tim and Eric’s comedy is squirm-and-smile funny, with the defining traits of the Tim & Eric Experience being strenuous weirdness, a vaguely pleasing comedic queasiness, and the pervy sweetness of the friendship that drives the whole show. Lots of Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie will delight the devotees. The plot tracks our guys as they seek to recoup a squandered billion-dollar film budget by renovating a Midwestern mall—a suitably random quest that invites a world of weirdness and a constellation of cameos (Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, John C. Reilly). But for every inspired bit—such as the casting of the great Twink Caplan, best known as Clueless’s Miss Geist, as the film’s motivating sex object/love interest—there are a half-dozen stupid poop jokes. And I mean stupid jokes literally involving poop—torrents of it. It’s a drag.
