Decent choice, but no longer the best

This place is always a solid choice for terriyaki in the u-district. Chicken terriyaki is good and I like their salad dressing more than most places. And if you are not a salad fan, you can ask for double rice instead, and then you get a second large helping of white rice. There is a self-serve hot tea station, which is pleasant, and a water cooler (note that the button to get the water is way at the top of the cooler...this is a little tricky and it's entertaining watching other diners try to figure out how to dispense the water). Staff is generally friendly and pleasant. Their noodle dishes have a slightly gummy texture which isn't entirely pleasant.

The veggie tempura is pretty good...just the right amount of batter. It doesn't feel too heavy or greasy.

They've remodeled inside, and the decor is very fancy and nicer than many terriyaki places. I don't really think this matters (as long as the place is clean and food is good, I don't need fancy decorations and new furniture), but for some people, it's important.

Best Teriyaki on the Ave.

Obviously a highly contested title, but one which TG deserves, and has maintained for the greater part of the least decade. Large, affordable, excellent teriyaki delivered quickly and with little fuss. Be prepared to wait for a seat should you attempt to dine-in during UW's lunch hour (1230) and even at the echo lunch hour (130) as there are few tables, and most of them are small. My one quibble is the TERRIBLE easy lsitening muzak they always seem to be playing when I dine there.

You will be pleased

This is my new favorite teriyaki place. It's true what the others have written. It is clean, friendly and pleasing. Filling. Delicious. Yes, this is the one.

I'd walk a mile for TG

Tokyo Garden popped my teriyaki cherry when I moved to Seattle in 1999, and it has remained my favorite place to eat grilled chicken, ever since. The teriyaki sauce is thick, smoky and sweet and the rice sticks together like a Catholic marriage. But the big winner is the salad. The fluffy shredded cabbage doused in that secret recipe dressing can only be described as ambrosia. When it gets all mingled up with the chicken, forming a pool of teriyaki sauce, dressing and Sriracha, it's a veritable soup of the gods. Maybe that makes me disgusting, but you know what they say, hate the player, not the game. Tokyo Garden 4-ever.

I recommend it!

Serves an array of teriyaki, a small selection of sushi, and a few Korean dishes that are exceptionally tasty for a relatively low price. A picture wall shows you exactly what you'll be getting plus it's quick! The atmosphere is no better than any other teriyaki houses but it's easily ignorable once your huge plate of food has come up.
