One of the few fortunate byproducts of September 11 was the preempting of the grunge nostalgia that would have otherwise attended the 10th anniversary of Nirvana's Nevermind. Denied the opportunity to remember the event, much less to hear every graying rock pundit in print weigh in about its cultural significance, we also missed our chance to see just how little has really changed since the record that changed everything was released.

1. George Bush is the president.

2. The nation is at war in the Middle East.

3. The economy is in recession.

4. There's nothing but fake metal and pop on the radio.

5. The local music scene sounds almost nothing like Nirvana.

6. Courtney Love is a train wreck of a human being.

7. Sub Pop may be in financial trouble.

8. Corporate magazines still suck.

9. Grunge is dead.

10. Nevermind is a perfect album from start to finish.
