Having a crush can make a girl do strange things. While I prefer to "hide" my sweetness for someone under a layer of third-grade antics (name-calling, punching, utter stupidity), some girls have less control over their emotions. These girls tend to make a scene whenever Mr. (or Miss) Object of Affection walks into the room.

Eighteen-year-old Nichole Monson is such a girl, and Saves the Day bassist Eben D'Amico is the lucky gent she's crushed-out on.

"I have never seen her act that way," said Nichole's friend Tia Larson, after the Eben run-in. "We meet bands all the time, but she just about pissed her pants over that one! It was like an orgasm or something."

What just happened was this: Nichole and Tia were standing toward the back of the Showbox on April 21, the night STD came to town. Before the show Eben was making his way through the crowd. Nichole saw Eben, and immediately pointed and squealed, "Oh my God, it's you!" A baffled Eben politely posed for photos while Nichole battled to contain herself. Why was she so excited?

"Because I'm in love with Saves the Day. I've never met Eben before. He's like the best ever. Eben rocks!" Nichole tried to justify her actions, but the girl could hardly breathe, let alone answer questions.

"Saves the Day puts real feelings into their music," she said. "I think that's so rad because it's really rare to find bands like that, that actually write from their heart and shit, you know?"

The sold-out show proved that Nichole isn't the only person in town who loves STD; everyone seemed to be singing along.

After the show a sweaty, smiling, completely rocked sea of Saves the Day fans drained from the Showbox. When I spotted Eben by the merch tables without his clamor of fans, I couldn't resist asking what it feels like to be freaked-out over.

"It's very bizarre, but amazing," he laughed. "It wasn't always like this, and it gets progressively weirder as we sell more records."

He paused to wipe his forehead with a white towel that had been wrapped around his neck.

"I can't say it's something that I'm comfortable with or I could really get used to," he continued. "I'd much rather somebody have a conversation than have me sign an autograph, but you know, if it makes them happy...."

At 22, Eben is impressively humble considering so many girls find him so "orgasmic."

"It comes with the territory. I don't think I could deal with being a real famous celebrity, though--that would be a miserable, miserable existence," he said. "At this level right now, it's tolerable."

Oh, Eben. You're so dreamy. MEGAN SELING
