But I didn't go.
I didn't want to front the cash, and I procrastinated too long to pull any "But I'm Megan from The Stranger!" strings (which I hate doing, but for $30 a ticket...). Instead of going to Avril, I went to Himsa and Bleeding Through at Studio Seven. It was about time I checked out the semi-new venue in SoDo (on the corner of Horton St and Occidental Ave). Walking into Studio Seven, I was immediately reminded of an old favorite, RKCNDY (oh, sweet sad). There was even a dark balcony.
Stranger Personals
Recently, the Paradox crew has been using Studio Seven to host some of their shows, and if you want to check out the venue with your own pretty eyes, go see Ozma and Earlimart on Monday, May 12. It'll be a good time (if you're into the geek-rock thing, which I am).
Another space the P'dox kids get up in (since the hunt for a permanent venue has proven fruitless) is Mars Hill, the gigantic blue church on Leary Way in Ballard (1401 Leary Way, to be exact). It's a good space, with some parking, plenty of room inside, and no smoking (thank goodness!). On Thursday, May 8, Emery, Plain White T's, Audio Karate, and Problem with Heroes will be playing for only $7, so if you haven't been yet, there's a good reason to go.
I feel like I'm forgetting something. Oh yes--not related to the Paradox crew (but just as wonderful) is Ballard's Brick House (AKA Golden Gardens Teen Center on Shilshole Bay). I like the Schoolyard Heroes almost as much as I like Avril (but with more sincerity and less "Sk8er Boi" jokes), and the Heroes are playing the Brick House on Saturday, May 10, with Kane Hodder and Time to Fly. That show, my friends, is only $4, and it starts promptly at 6:30 pm. Talk about all ages action. MEGAN SELING
