Completely unrelated... last September, the Northwest Late Night Coalition (NWLNC) took over Westlake Park in downtown Seattle to hold its daylong dance in protest of the Rave Act. The RAVE Act (Reducing Americans' Vulnerability to Ecstasy Act) would hold club owners and/or concert promoters responsible for any drugs that are present, sold, or used within clubs during a concert or dance. Under the RAVE Act, the person held responsible (club owner or promoter) could face a fine of up to $750,000 and/or jail time (up to 20 years). The law isn't just limited to raves--it also includes rock shows.
Here's the bad news: Despite protests, the law just passed. So just like it did last year, the NWLNC is going to dance all day long in Westlake Park, protesting and raising awareness about the act. There will be a whole bunch of DJs (Miguel Migs, Wesley Holmes, Duv Dev, Erez, DJ Flave, Dirty, Zacharia, Rama, and more), guest speakers, and probably a lot of candy and colored hair too (I don't mean that in a bad way). It all starts at noon on Saturday, May 31, and will wrap up around 6:00 p.m., rain or shine. For more information on the RAVE Act and the protest, visit www.nwlnc.org. MEGAN SELING
