The Vera Project released some exciting news this week, announcing that the downtown all-ages venue has an opening for a new booking and promotions assistant! If you've been searching for a doorway into the music industry and are between the ages of 16 and 24, then this job might be just what you're looking for. The requirements include a strong interest in music (of course), great communication skills, and basic computer knowledge.
It's an internship, so the position is unpaid, but hey, I started as an intern here at The Stranger years ago and look at me now! Sorry, shameless self-adoration. Anyway, all interested people should submit a resumé and a letter of interest by 5 pm on Monday, December 15. E-mail Shannon Stewart at shannons@theveraproject.org or visit www.theveraproject.org for more information.
Stranger Personals
Speaking of the Vera Project folks, their monthly acoustic showcase is happening Wednesday, December 17, and it features music from Tomo and Kelly of Asahi and Yuuki of the band Seldom. It's free, but if you arrive hungry, you can throw down three bucks for a vegan dinner.
In other news, I'm hoping that I'll be feeling better by Friday so I don't miss ex-Teen Cthulhu members tearing the Downtown YMCA's Fusion Cafe apart with their newish project Doomsday 1999. Doomsday kick out some of the heaviest, most ridiculous yet furious death metal around, going completely crazy when they perform live. At this summer's Capitol Hill Block Party, lead, uh... screamer Zack CarlsonCQ thrashed off the stage midset and ran around the crowd putting on people's hats, sunglasses, and whatever else he could grab. They're hilarious and loud, and the show's worth $5 for sure. 107.7 The End's People's Choice Countdown superstars Schoolyard Heroes open the show with the Assailant and Iron Lung. And unfortunately, I can't tell you how much the Assailant rule live, because I've never seen them, but I've heard great things about songs that clock in under a minute with the goal of making as much noise as possible. I think I'm going to like it. Till then, I'm going back to bed. MEGAN SELING
Need more? You can hear my personal picks for the week on 107.7 The End every Monday and Friday at 5:30 pm during DJ No Name's Afternoon Experiment.
