With the changing of the seasons comes a rebirth to Seattle's all-ages music community. Two all-ages superstars, Schoolyard Heroes and the Fall of Troy, have new records coming out this year. Schoolyard have recorded their third full-length, the follow up to 2005's Fantastic Wounds, and it will be released later this summer, and the Fall of Troy's Equal Vision debut, Manipulator, is set to come out May 1. (Curious fans can preview a new track, "Cut Down All the Trees and Name the Streets After Them" at their MySpace page, www.myspace.com/thefalloftroy.)

Former Sound Off! champs the Lonely Forest are currently working on new material for an upcoming release, which you can hear demos of at www.myspace.com/thelonelyforest, and one of my current favorite local bands, the Whore Moans, plan on increasing their all-ages shows so you kids can get in on their hot rock 'n' roll, which usually only happens at local bars. And hopefully you're already aware that on Saturday, April 7, at the Vera Project, Speaker Speaker will celebrate the release of their new We Won't March EP with Shorthand for Epic and the Trucks.

Stuff is happening, and even more is about to happen in the coming months. All that excitement on the brink leaves me a chance to sift through my music collection to find some of my favorite spring songs. It's not remarkably "bad-ass"; I save my blistering rock for the summer. Spring is about being light, bright, and rejuve-nating. Here's my Boom! It's Spring! 2K7 mix:

1. Anathallo, "Dokkoise House (With Face Covered)"

2. Arcade Fire, "Keep the Car Running"

3. Jawbreaker, "Do You Still Hate Me?"

4. Mates of State, "Goods (All in Your Head)"

5. Fugazi, "Arpeggiator"

6. Juno, "Non-Equivalents"

7. Mogwai, "2 Rights Make 1 Wrong"

8. The Promise Ring, "Is This Thing On?"

9. Night Canopy, "Boom! It's Spring"

10. The Beatles, "Penny Lane"

11. Mirah, "Apples in the Trees"

12. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, "Parallel or Together?"

It's a nice mix—some upbeat rock to dance to, some dynamic instrumentals to chillax with. It's all there. And because I love spring almost as much as I love all of you, the first 10 people to send their name and mailing address to megan@thestranger.com will get their very own limited-edition Boom! It's Spring! 2K7 mix CD made with my own wittle hands. I'll make the disc pretty (because I like pretty things), and I'll probably throw in some candy, too (because I also like candy). Boom! It's spring!
