Love is in the air this week, and not just because of Valentine's Day. And even if you don't have a date, there's still some rad shit to do. I promise. One of your options, in fact, involves ice cream. See? Told you this weekend would be rad.

First, for the lovers in love with loving love, on Saturday, February 13, the Round at the Fremont Abbey presents a special Valentine's edition of its art/music/poetry showcase, which is actually much cooler than an art/music/poetry showcase sounds. The Round takes a handful of local musicians and puts them on a stage together. They take turns playing whatever acoustic songs they want to play, sometimes covers, sometimes originals, and sometimes—the best times—they spontaneously begin to collaborate.

This weekend's performance features Benjamin Verdoes of Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, members of the Globes, and Anna Arvan, and to up the romance, they'll be performing with a string quartet. Ooh-la-la.

That same night, if string quartet music by candlelight isn't so much your thing, then maybe some motherfucking ice cream and punk rock is! Local buzz band Cold Lake, who made their debut about a month ago opening for the Murder City Devils, are playing at Full Tilt Ice Cream in Columbia City with Deception Pass.

Cold Lake's songs (including "Troll III," about anonymous internet trolling, and "Who the Fuck Is Vampire Weekend") are quick blasts of pissed-off punk rock—quite the opposite of what'll be happening at the Fremont Abbey. Just don't take your ice cream cone in the pit—that'd get messy.
