THIS WILL DESTROY YOU, PURE ECSTASY, SLEEP ∞ OVER

Remaining Sleep ∞ Over member Stefanie Franciotti knows wassup. Recent compositions such as "Bathsalts" have seen her molecularly reassembling cassette sounds by taffy-stretching them through the gnashing gears of "two different speed-controlled tape decks." In other words, a more artful, delicate take on those massively decelerated pop viral clips (my favorite is still "Kelly's Apollo"—YouTube it). But no matter the techno-wizardry, she's making some of the moment's most exciting ambient music (not an oxymoron!). It's penetrating, meditative, and new agey. Her website—which revels in pre-dot-com-boom-era 'net schlock—is also a delight (www.sleepoverforever.tumblr.com). Vera Project, 7:30 pm, $9.

SUNDAY 5/22

CITY CENTER, SWIMSUIT, SECRET TWINS, IJI, THE HIVE DWELLERS

Speaking of aquamarine ecstasy and awesome websites, I was pleased to find that New York musician City Center's blog has a photo of a dolphin frolicking in sun-dappled water as its tiled background. But rather than the new age swag this aesthetic decision suggests, Fred Thomas has been rocking a buoyant indie rock sound of late (you might remember Thomas from Saturday Looks Good to Me, or City Center's earlier, more sound-collagey material). Not only is City Center touring with DIY luminary Calvin Johnson's Hive Dwellers and his own beach-fried side project Swimsuit, but he's also hawking a buttload of tour-only merch, which you can learn more about at www.citycenternyc.blogspot.com. The Bread Factory, 6 pm.
