THURSDAY 7/21

KEVIN GREENSPON, ANCIENT CRUX, NEIGHBORS

Kevin Greenspon is a super-talented drone musician from the City of Industry, California. Everyone else on this bill also rules, especially the top-secret fourth band. The Black Lodge, 8 pm, $5.

SATURDAY 7/23

THE LAST SLICE OF BUTTER, M. WOMEN, MASTERS AND JOHNSON

This is a great show to catch after seeing Underage faves Hausu, Witch Gardens, Seapony, and Beat Connection at the Capitol Hill Block Party's Vera Stage. The Last Slice of Butter have a devout commitment to volume, and drummer Travis Coster—also of U, who play later this week (see below)—has been known to pound his kit so hard that it deteriorates around him mid-set. "It is kind of a damaging experience, being in this band," says bassist Catalin Vulcan. Healthy Times Fun Club, 8 pm, $5 suggested donation.

MONDAY 7/25

XANDER HARRIS, U

The last time I saw local grind-'n'-mash electronic duo U, I was moved to remark, "If U put out an album of the set I just saw, it would be my favorite album of the year." I stand by that hyperbolic praise; their new material amazes. Harsh and booming, it somehow still manages to be groovy and rapturous at the same time (contemporary R&B is a reference point). Imagine Ford & Lopatin's Channel Pressure brutalized in a solvent bath. Here's hoping U find a producer up to the challenge of translating their wholly singular sound to a studio setting. In the meantime, their unparalleled arsenal of high-wattage amps makes their live show a must-see. Healthy Times Fun Club, 8 pm, $5 suggested donation.
