For Western fans who also love Buffy the Vampire Slayer (can someone make a Venn diagram for that?), here's a fun-looking new show debuting tonight (April 1) at 10 pm on Syfy, called Wynonna Earp. From the press release:

Based on the IDW Comic, Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp's great granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. With her unique abilities, and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she's the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice.

Here's what a few critics are saying. From Warming Glow:

Wynonna herself is far from the omnicompetent ninja that shows like this generally have. She’s a terrible shot, she has authority problems, and she’s a little too enthusiastic about bad ideas, ranging from using combat shotguns to sleeping with the wrong kind of men. She also has a believable, and funny, chemistry with just about everyone in the cast.

From Collider:

Is Wynonna Earp high art? No, and who cares? So far it’s fun, and has done an excellent job of explaining what can be a fairly confusing setup, as well as introducing a great mix of humor and violence (with decent if not spectacular effects). And not only is it a show that features several badass women in lead roles, it also incorperates a particular love interest that suggests some sexual fluidity.

From A.V. Club:

If Syfy has faith in it, Wynonna Earp could grow into the good-time Western pulp it has the potential to be. The camera makes good use of Calgary country that convincingly brings the West to life, and there’s enough structure in the premise to build a solid season on. Scrofano is doing her part to make Wynonna Earp a slice of gritty, goofy fun; let’s hope the show can follow suit.

Looks like this one shows some real promise! Check it out tonight, and here's the trailer!
