The reactor building is significant both from a history of archeture and technology. "NIMBY" is not an issue.
2
your assertion in the caption of the mosque photo is debatable, and I'm going to assume you're trolling.

I'd rather have a historic brutalist nuclear reactor building.

The debate was in Brooklyn.

Probably the closest model we have to the politics of lands surrounding Jerusalem would be square footage on the UW campus. The causal observer would simply not believe the egos and pettiness associated with faculty, provosts, and, "boosters" when yet another new building on campus is proposed. A case excellent to this point "the reactor building ". It's not NIMBY nearly so much as various folks are utterly certain their future glory depends on its eventual disposition.

I like how Patty defends her endorsement of the establishment candidate by pointing out that she is also part of that establishment. In other words, "we're the plutocracy, suck it!"

I'm for the mosque. But they don't build 'em like that anymore. Churches either. So an argument can be made to oppose the construction of all new houses of worship, regardless of the particular faith, on purely aesthetic grounds.

@1, 2, 4 Bigots gotta bigot.

Seriously though, if you just replace the word "mosque" with "church" or "temple", it should be pretty clear how fucked up that sentiment is. Personally, I'd rather not have any mosques near me. I'd also rather not have any churches, temples, or organized religions in general. But come on, that guy is just a xenophobic asshole that happens to enjoy the privilege of majority. A vacation outside of his comfort zone might help him see the other side of the issue. Syria, perhaps? I hear Northern Iraq is beautiful this time of year.

@7,

Preach.

"One of the realtors behind the video says Seattle is on the cusp of one of its most explosive growth cycles in history."

This is mind boggling, considering the growth we've has here over the last 20 years.

@Dan: they don't build 'em like that anymore.

The Mormons do, which makes them all the more creepy in my opinion.

Glad to see Rebar will survive this next tidal wave of development.

@8: wow, your anti-monotheist opinion is far more bigoted than my mild assertion that the caption is debatable was. what a bigot!

After spending a few weeks in Turkey, I kinda wish we started having call to prayer here in the US. It's beautiful to hear (at least when your Imam has a good voice); far prettier than any church bells I've ever heard.

Supporting historic preservation on the UW campus is every bit a bizzare as supporting Bernie Sanders for president.

(See what I did there? I can troll, too!!!)

@10: It's more than a bit scary to think that they may still be correct.

Please wait...
