Mercer Island will be hosting a notable guest on Saturday.

Maya Soetoro-Ng is an accomplished educator teaching Peace Studies at the University of Hawai'i and founder of nonprofits Ceeds of Peace and Our Public Schools. She is also President Barack Obama's half-sister.

She will be in Seattle this weekend to present a scholarship at Mercer Island High School. The $5,000 award is from the Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund, which was established seven years ago in honor of her late mother, an alumna from the school, KPLU reports.

Ann Dunham, or Stanley Ann Dunham as she was known in her youth, was a member of the Mercer Island High School Class of 1960. She went on to become an anthropologist, doing research around the world.

“You know, my mom loved Mercer Island, and loved Seattle, and always told me I would love it too," Soetoro-Ng said.

Dunham also attended night classes at University of Washington from 1961 to 1962 and even lived on Capitol Hill with her infant son, The Seattle Times reported when they caught up with Soetoro-Ng during her last visit in 2013. Soetoro was also involved with her brother's campaign in 2008.
