Dozens of people came out in the middle of the afternoon to protest the sale of KPLU, including one man who drove from Tacoma.

Tacoma News Tribune:

The effort called Save KPLU will live up to its name Thursday afternoon.

At 3:30 p.m. KPLU General Manager Joey Cohn is scheduled to announce on the air that the campaign has reached its goal of raising $7 million.

Now the Friends of 88.5 FM can make an offer to station owner Pacific Lutheran University to keep it out of the hands of the University of Washington’s KUOW.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the KPLU reporters who put in work to fight media consolidation and save their own station, and all the community members who raised their voices and protested against a deal for UW to acquire the station. That deal was carefully kept secret, then presented publicly as a fait accompli. The Tribune reports that the Save KPLU campaign has begun negotiating with PLU to purchase the station. Here's hoping the college honors all their hard work.
