BBC:

An MP has died after she was shot and stabbed during an attack in her constituency, police have said. Jo Cox, 41, Labour MP for Batley and Spen, was left bleeding on the ground by her attacker. A 77-year-old man also suffered slight injuries. A 52-year-old man was arrested near Market Street, Birstall, West Yorkshire Police said. The MP held a weekly advice surgery nearby. The MP's death was confirmed at police headquarters in Wakefield.

Cox was a Labour MP, a feminist, an anti-slavery campaigner, an LGBT ally, and a supporter of welcoming Syrian refugees to Britain. She was married and was the mother of two young children.

The Telegraph:

A man who runs a nearby cafe said he believed the gunman shot MP Jo Cox three times - including once in "the head area" - before stabbing her multiple times with a "foot-long knife". Clarke Rothwell said that, as the man stabbed Mrs Cox, he shouted: "Britain First, Britain First, Britain First." .... The man arrested after Labour MP Jo Cox was repeatedly shot and stabbed has been named locally as Tommy Mair, a local man from Birstall where the attack took place. Neighbours described him as a "loner".

Britain First is a rightwing/crypto-fascist, anti-immigrant, anti-gay political party that describes itself as "a patriotic political party and street defence organisation" where nativists, xenophobes, and hooligans can "join forces with patriots like you and make a real difference!"

Or a judge.
