He's not even president yet, but Donald Trump is already making himself quite a pest to foreign leaders. According to various international politicians, the campaign has been nagging them with requests for money. This is annoying, to be sure. It is also against the law.

No response from the Trump campaign about any of this, naturally. They're probably too busy scouring anti-Semitic message boards for memes.

The bright side to this latest weird turn of events is that it has provided a fun writing prompt for the numerous politicians who wish to rebuke Donald Trump. Like Tasha Yar's daughter Sela, politicians do not often have an opportunity to write, and so it is a real pleasure to see them turning out some truly scathing essays.

"The US elections are a matter for the American people, but I do send my warm hope that they reject your father fundamentally at the ballot box," wrote Glasgow MP Natalie McGarry.

"Members of Parliament are being bombarded by electronic communications from Team Trump on behalf of somebody called Donald Trump," said Sir Roger Gale, another MP, calling the emails "intemperate spam."

Of course, it is illegal to solicit campaign contributions from foreigners, but so far the Federal Elections Commission has not opened a case against Trump, despite various complaints. Their position seems to be that his actions seem to have been accidental so far, and that they trust him to refund any foreign donations that are brought to his attention. Ha ha, oh God we're doomed.

Still, the big question that everyone's scratching their head over is just: why? Why did Donald's campaign reach out to politicians from Scotland to Iceland to Canada and Denmark and God knows where else, in clear violation of the law? Your guess is as good as anyone else's. One theory is that the campaign was too cheap to buy a good political mailing list, and they just used whatever lists Trump's businesses use for PR and lobbying. Or maybe they figured it would be easier to ask forgiveness than permission?

We've known for a while now that Trump's fundraising has been fairly pathetic, and we're going to be getting the next financial disclosure from the Trump campaign in just a few weeks. The next report will drop in late July... in the middle of the GOP convention. I wonder if it'll be a topic of conversation.
