Could a 1972 Quincy Jones funk jam get symphonic?

On Friday morning, I made a half-serious tweet at Seattle Symphony.

To say I was surprised by this response would be an understatement.

I figured the Seattle Symphony wouldn't even give a passing thought to including the quirky, funky, cowbell-intensive TV tune from a '70s sitcom starring Redd Foxx in its November 11 tribute to Jones and Ernestine Anderson, Sonic Evolution. But symphony director Ludovic Morlot is one of the most unconventional figures in his field, and he's opened up the orchestra's repertoire in a truly adventurous manner. You get the sense that almost anything can happen now with Seattle Symphony. That approach deserves respect.
