Good god.
The stuff of nightmares. tim eyman

"It was like a family reunion." That's how Washington anti-taxxer/owner of only one shirt Tim Eyman describes going to Donald Trump's rally in Everett on Tuesday.

In an email to supporters this morning, Eyman gushes about getting to meet Trump at the pricey pre-rally fundraiser:

"I admire your courage." The perfect words from a guy who's accused of improperly using campaign money and refusing to cooperate with an attorney general's investigation to one who has demonized immigrants and refugees, mocked disabilities, and attacked the parents of a dead Muslim soldier.

Inside the rally, Eyman writes that "the crackling energy and enthusiasm was off the charts"—an energy and enthusiasm created not by any particular policy idea, apparently, but by the feeling of being under attack.

Being a conservative in Texas is easy. Being a conservative in Washington is a whole lot tougher. But it's exactly because of that difficulty—the fact you're constantly outnumbered—it gives you a sort of siege mentality, grit, and determination because you know you're constantly behind enemy lines. Above all, you develop a sense of humor. So you get in an arena with 10,000+ like-minded happy warriors, and you can't help but smile and enjoy yourself. You don't get mad at the yelling, screaming, red-faced protesters, you laugh at 'em.

But where Eyman saw "happy warriors," we saw anger.

The hissing and booing at mentions of Syrian refugees, the people near me who laughed when a voice over the loud speaker instructed them to avoid harming protesters, the "lock her up" chants, the guy who growled "Killery," the "Hillary Sucks but Not Like Monica" signs, the homophobia.

As Sean Nelson wrote this week: "One would like to believe there is room for human connection between all people, and that our differences are overstated. One would not be so sure after standing in that line for a few hours. Our differences have not even been fully articulated, but here is the main one: They fucking HATE you. They really do."
