The flu: Either you have it, or you're about to. The state is facing an epidemic, which is common, but apparently this year's strain of the flu is particularly concerning.

You can lower your chances of getting sick by getting the flu vaccine through your healthcare provider—and the sooner the better because it takes two weeks after vaccination for the antibodies to develop.

If you don't have one or they're all booked up by everyone else who is unwell—look for pharmacies nearby, many of them provide flu shots, which is often free with your insurance. Bartell's, Rite-Aid, Walgreen's, and QFC Pharmacys all have drop-in vaccinations clinics, as does Costco, which offers the seasonal flu shot for $14.99. If you have children, they may be able to get vaccines for free through King County's Vaccines For Children (VFC) program.
