Joe Buckets: now smacking tubs in the studio instead of in the streets.
Joe Buckets: now smacking tubs in the studio instead of in the streets. Ansel Herz

Remember in the much simpler, saner times of March 2015 when the Seattle Police Department confiscated the makeshift kit of semi-ubiquitous street drummer Joe Buckets (real surname: Ayotte)? Buckets would often set up in The Stranger's infamous two-block radius near Poquito's and Everyday Music and, yes, he had a bad habit of violating noise ordinances.

Well, two days ago Mr. Buckets e-mailed to inform us that the SPD never returned his gear, which he estimates cost about $1,000. However, after serving a month in King County jail for "another bullshit charge," he built a new, better kit and returned to his old tub-thumping grounds, funkier than ever.

Not only that, he also joined an off-kilter rap-rock band called Daniel the Dreamer. He says he's "off the streets and in a studio and loving life cause I'm getting paid doing what I love." It's kind of a heart-warming outcome for a guy cursed with a poor awareness of the time of day who just wanted to bust some Ziggy Modeliste-like beats on the Hill for spare change.
