As a young news intern at our sister paper, the Stranger,

Isn't this the Stranger?

"sister paper, the Stranger"

This is like one of those continuity errors the McClatchy borg forgets to edit out from Tacoma, Olympia, Bellingham, Everett papers... who are you channeling?

@1 & 2: Megan is now in PDX with The Mercury

I think some signs with actual statistics on how many children go hungry or die to to neglect and abuse every year in this country. Then maybe add something along the lines of if you werent here spouting your lies, you could like help them out.

Bring gifts to the people who work at clinics! I recommend bringing them gift cards for local coffee shops until they know you and then you can bring them things like homemade treats/purchased food items. I have this at both Planned Parenthood and the Cedar River Clinic and everyone was so nice and appreciative. They have very difficult and stressful jobs even under the best circumstances and they deserve to be shown that we understand that.

@4, Along those lines, signs that say support the babies---support medicare for all, single payer, and a national child care system and 16 weeks of paid leave like French parents get. Tell your GOP cro-mag reps to put up or shut up if you want to reduce abortions.

Hey, don't beat around the bush;
tell those cave men if they don't give you what you want you are going to do something really unimaginably horrible like killing- say- a million babies.
Every Year!
Oh, wait.....

I still consider that article about those bottom-feeding "crisis centers" to be one of the best articles to come out of the Stranger.

I'm glad to see you're still working in journalism, Ms Burbank. Keep up the good work.

Why are libs that proclaim they are pro choice not pro choice when it comes to our public indoctrination centers aka schools?
10
@9: what the fuck are you jabbering about? There is no governmental restriction about where kids can go to school (hell, with a small amount of fuss, you can even not send them to school and home school the little monsters). The argument is over whether public dollars should be used for private school.

So, no, one thing like the other. You should have paid more attention in school.

"Just as the ability for humans to live beyond their early 120s will depend on the advent of new approaches such as gene therapy and stem cell-based treatments, fetuses will begin surviving extraction from the womb at gestational ages below 22 weeks, only when neonatologists implement strategies completely different from those used today. But very different strategies are around the corner."

Artificial wombs will likely be a reality some day. When abortion involves extracting a fetus, then confronting a choice between putting said fetus into an artificial womb OR the drain....what will the debate look like then?

Uh, who cares? When we both manage to create real artificial intelligence and develop "viruses" or other programs that serve a purpose similar to getting high, what will the debate on robot drug control look like? Answer: we'll figure it out when it happens.

There are a number of other ways to support clinics:

1. Hold a house party to raise money. Just invite your friends to your home. Tell them it's a fundraiser for the clinic, but that they can choose how much to give. Have a speaker come from the clinic. Have some light nibbles: maybe donuts and coffee. Takes under an hour, people are happy to learn more and help. Whatever you raise helps the clinic.

2. If you want to confront protestors, download some pics of actual kids available for adoption from adoption sites like adoptuskids.org. Go up to protestors and say, "Here's a child near us available for adoption. Will you help? Can you adopt this child personally? Can I come speak to your church about children available for adoption?" It steals their thunder about "don't abort, adopt" when actual living children can't get adopted.

3. Offer to help the clinic raise money by using pictures of the protestors. Send emails asking people to sponsor a particular protestor. When that protestor shows up, they pay a pledge of $5 or $10. Each week, go to the clinic during protests, take pictures and email them or post them on Facebook. That way, ever time that "ugly guy" or "purple-haired old lady" show up, the clinic raises money. The protestors may not like their pics being taken but it's public space, and as long as they're saying their ugly things, the clinic might as well make money from it. You may be able to get publicity for this, too. It penalizes the protestors for continuing to protest, and helps the clinic raise money.

I did clinic defense for three years and found it a good way to help women. I also noticed that when a white woman walked into a clinic with her white mom (in Virginia), protestors would yell, "Don't do it, I'll adopt your baby." But when a white women would walk in with her black boyfriend, protestors would yell, "Don't do it, don't kill your baby." See the difference? Feel free to call out protestors for racism on Facebook and in other forums with live video when you see this happening.
