We need to start compiling useful data on the VP immediately.

Trump could be impeached fairly soon. the RNC probably wants this just as much as everyone else. They love his cabinet and his policies, all of which are no doubt compromises he made with the RNC in return for their support. However, they're embarrassed by him personally, and would much prefer Mike Pence as their standard bearer.

The idea is that Pence could actually win an election in 2020. Once Trump fully implodes, they can always blame everything on his unstable personality. Pence lacks Trump's bombast, and his calmer demeanor could be used to cast him as sane and reasonable.

Thus, we need to get rid of Pence as well as Trump, and before 2020.

@1
Great idea.
Perhaps you could enlist the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny as research assistants.

The Real Story here is how quickly Trump put a bullet in the back of the head of this little scandal.
Move along folks, nothing to see......
4
@1: What is Trump going to be impeached for, by the GOP-lead congress?
5
@1: "However, they're embarrassed by him personally, and would much prefer Mike Pence as their standard bearer."

Disagree, they prefer for Pence to make the decisions and illiterate Trump be the face (technically the "heel" in Trump's parlance) for the GOP's decisions. Pence wouldn't be able to get away with nearly as much.

@4: This. Trump can do all the anti-Christian stuff he wants, he'd have to promise to take away everyone's guns.
6
@2: "Perhaps you could enlist the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny as research assistants."

The only people qualified to find a principled Republican willing to offer more than lip service to Trump's unAmerican* activities? ;)

*sadly not as much as I wish to they were. Still unConstitutional though.

So long as he's not replaced with somebody equally demented, this greatly reduces the odds that we'll end up in a stupid war with Iran.

So long as Trump will sign the legislation they put on his desk and appoint the judges the Heritage Foundation tells him to, the GOP Congress will be content to leave Trump alone to clown around with foreign policy and build his hotel empire. There will be no impeachment.

Putin’s gonna reduce Flynn’s bonus for blowing his cover so early, but you can bet your bottom ruble that hiz payoff is gonna be yuuuge for conspiring with the Ru$$ian$ to install the Twitler regime.

Plus, the GOPKKK will proclaim him a hero for conservatives, and he’ll spend the next few decades making bank on hate radio. Win-win for Flynn.

Treason: IOKIYAR :-)

"Nightmare-a-Lago"? Yes, that's where he should be sent.
11
Next that pipsqueak Miller has to go.
12
Trump isn't going to be impeached. In fact, he's going to win another term.

@11:

And Bannon. And Spicer. And Priebus, And Conway. And...
14
And it's only Day 26 of the Twitler regime/US implosion. Time really passes at a snail's pace in hell.

Flynn is only a small part of the RepubliKKKan plot to seize total control of our country. They're still planning to launch a staged terrorist attack against a US city or a war, so that Twitler/Pence/Sauron can suspend the Constitution and replace it with a GOPKKK dictatorship. The attack is imminent, and Twitler already has set up refugees and immigrants for the blame.
15
@13: Oh let's keep Kellyanne, we need a little levity.
17
@14. Stop reading that infowars garbage. They don't have to stage anything. Their own incompetence and stupidity will guarantee a terrorist event of some kind just like under Bush. Remember the "Al Qaida determined to attack in the US" memo that Bush & co ignored? Yep. It'll be another one of those under these clowns and they'll blame everyone but themselves once it happens.
18
@4 - an actual plot with the Russians, for one thing. There are many GOP congressmen who just wouldn't be down with that. Oh, and I recommend the past participle "led" for "lead". Not all verbs give you that option (e.g., there is no 'red' past participle or past tense option for 'read', more's the pity) - you should take advantage of the ones that do.

@1 "Trump could be impeached fairly soon"

Trump is not going to be impeached in the near future. It is nothing about his conflict of interest, his enrichment of his net worth while in office, his questionable tax returns and his current loans.

It has to do with politics. The Republicans in Congress will be terrified if they have to be impeached Trump, given he is the President from their own party, and they will effect their chances in both 2018 and 2020.

The logic that Mike Pence can easily slip into the POTUS role, and Trump will be forgotten, is not based in reality. Pence will be under a huge amount of scrutiny for his role in a Trump Administration, and when he knew his boss was a crook or incompetent. An Impeached and Removed President Trump is hardly going to stay quiet, besides the internal battles in the GOP of Pro Trump factions versus Anti Trump factions will come to the surface again..

The only way that Trump will be impeached, is the Democratic Party takes over the House again after the 2018 election, and there has to be around 17 or more Republican Senators to go along with a post 2018 hypothetical Democratic Majority Senate to remove President Trump from office. There are huge obstacles in order to get done. For example, the 2018 mid term elections will have 25 Democratic Party Senators running for re election out of the 33 Senate races, many of them in vulnerable seats like Missouri, Montana and Indiana.

The Republicans will impeached Trump when they see a huge election disaster where the Dems take 60 seats plus by after the 2020 Senate races are decided, and they see they will be wipe out in the House, in order to save any semblance of power. Right now, I highly doubt the Republicans, especially in the House will get even near any semblance of preparing for Impeachment..

Of course Mercer Island is suing to block light rail. Transit oriented development is anathema to its wealthy, privileged inhabitants whose hashtag is #MercerIslandSoWhite.
21
@1 Assuming you can shitcan Trump and Pence, Paul Ryan is next in line.
22
@7 you have completely nailed Trump's value to the GOP.
23
@18: Yes, we can all imagine lots of things to impeach Trump for, but he actually has to do something that is actionable, and the congress has to move on it.

Also, I have a tip for you: don't give condescending grammar lessons when you see a typo. It does not make you look like a wise old benevolent sage, it makes you look like a pedantic prick.
24
@20

"Downtown Mercer Island" is already built around transit oriented development… Just take a look at it, as I assume you haven't seen it in years, if ever.
25
Trumps not going anywhere. Why would you get rid of a president that signs anything you put in front of him without reading it and keeps the media focused on whether he owns a bathrobe or not.
26
@25: I don't think Ryan and McConnell are that jaded. If they are, it's depressing.
28
@27 Their primary allegiance is to the Money God.
Flynn is Oliver North.
29
@12: I'd love to imagine that Republicans are smarter and more moral than Raindrop, but you could be right.
30
@26: Rand Paul, Man of Integrity:

“I just don’t think it’s useful to be doing investigation after investigation, particularly of your own party. We’ll never even get started with doing the things we need to do, like repealing Obamacare, if we’re spending our whole time having Republicans investigate Republicans. I think it makes no sense.”

Your party is filled with cretinous waste and you're incredibly foolish for always and ever pretending otherwise. You revel in their corruption, you cheer at every immoral act.
31
I can see Rand Paul's point, his party is so morally corrupt that if they started investigating all the illegal and immoral things they do, they indeed would have no time for anything else.

I feel mentally exhausted. Every day some new horror. Over the weekend we had that egregious disregard of national security, and using his position as POTUS to drag the Japanese head of state around to advertise his vulgarian club (crashing that wedding party and introducing Abe to them AFTER conducting sensitive national business where any random dude could take pics and post on FB!!). And today no one is even paying attention to that breach of security, and the outrageous using-the-presidency-for-enrichment conduct, because of this Flynn scandal! As if Flynn would have done this on his own!

And in the meantime, the GOP creeps in Congress is pushing and passing bills to roll back women's rights; destroy clean air and clean water protections; kill the Endangered Species Act; sell public lands to developers and Big Oil; strip mine the Grand Canyon and drill the Arctic Refuge; take away all LGBTQ rights; break treaties with Native Nations and allies; and who knows what else! It's fucking whack-a-mole! And unlike the Orange Scourge's voters - who seem to have unlimited free time - we have jobs, and families, and pets, and friends! I hope we are able to keep up with fighting all these conscienceless people without falling into despair, or get sick from all the stress and trauma! It's not even a month yet!!

Please wait...
