Local activist network #ShoutYourAbortion and design firm Civilization have won a Webby Award! The Webbys, if you don’t already know (and it’s ok if you don’t), are often referred to as the “Oscars of the Internet." The award has been recognizing the best of the internet in gaming, design, advertising, user experience, music videos, streaming, and more since 1996, and is internationally renowned.

SYA and Civilization snagged the 2017 People’s Voice Award for Activism, voted on by 3.5 million people via (what else?) the internet, which “recognizes digital activism around a noteworthy cause.” Civilization, known for their elegant and slick website designs, helped #ShoutYourAbortion craft their site, which features personal narratives, a space to add stories, and tools for joining the movement for reproductive freedom.

Though Planned Parenthood and the Women’s March also took home Webby honors, it’s more than refreshing to see such a “radical” idea (women, talking openly about their abortions, imagine that) taking hold in the public consciousness a little more and get recognized by a mainstream award.

And it couldn’t be a more perfect time for that kind of attention, with Trump signing anti-abortion bills left and right and appointing a “pro-life” justice to the Supreme Court.

Here’s Lindy West, co-founder of #ShoutYourAbortion along with Amelia Bonow, talking about her 2010 abortion:
