Even if there wasn't already a load of votes already cast, I think he would still have won as Republicans votes are hard to turn away, even with a charge of criminal assault (especially since the assault was on a journalist). If the Republicans actually seat Gianforte when he joins Congress (highly unlikely they won't, but you never know), the Dems should call for his impeachment; crimes committed before a person is elected are impeachable offenses.

The election of Giganticasshole is disappointing, but not surprising. Any brief perusal of his political, eCONomic, and religious views reveals that he's a raving fascist lunatic, but the newspapers endorsed him anyway prior to the attack.

RepubliKKKan voters are some of the most sadistic, stupidest, and evil people on the planet. They'd gleefully vote for Adolph Hitler if he had a (R) after his name.

@11 they were just historically marginalized and victimized people having a good time and settling a dispute within their own community, using a community-based restorative and participatory approach. "Adequate" policing only continues historical racial oppression and actually perpetrates violence against those that we have victimized.

It had been unclear if Gianforte's assault charge would impact the race. About a third of eligible voters in Montana had already cast their ballots in early voting, and others said it didn't influence their vote.

Shaun Scott, a computer science professor at Carroll College in Helena, said the assault charge was barely a factor in his decision.

"If you have somebody sticking a phone in your face, a mic in your face, over and over, and you don't know how to deal with the situation, you haven't really done that, you haven't dealt with that, I can see where it can ... make you a little angry," Scott said Thursday.


What the fuck, Montana? This is the sort of tribalism and hypocrisy that makes me not miss these people at all. I know I said that the "character matters" argument is strong in Montana, but I guess I forgot that "do as I say, not as I do" is stronger.

I feel like Calvin, shouting "WHAT DOES IT TAKE, HUH?!" up into the sky.

Republicans really have turned their party into a​ new class of shitty. I have to admit I expected a little better of more of them.

This tribalism is fucked up, and it's only getting worse as far as I can see. The left is getting increasingly tribalistic too. No I have zero interest in comparing left to right since that doesn't excuse anybody. They're both getting worse now than a year ago, and they're both responding to each other getting worse.
