The Space Needle was wrong to fly the French flag after terrorists killed 130 people in Paris on November 13, 2015. Why? Because Islamic extremists do not only kill people in European countries but also in African, Arab, and Middle Eastern ones. Indeed, over the past two weeks there have deadly terrorist attacks in the UK, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

As for the Space Needle going dark two weeks ago to honor Chris Cornell's passing, that is neither here nor there. But what would be of greater importance is if the Space Needle flew a green flag today or was bathed in green light tonight to show the world that our city supports the Paris accord and is fundamentally opposed to not only Trump's decision to pull the US out of the agreement, but his position on global warming.

Other cities around the world are doing exactly this. New York City, for example, has projected green lights on the top of the Empire State Building and the facade of the City Hall.

Now is the time, Space Needle.
