What a pissy little article about nothing. Obviously, a lot of people worked together on this including TRU in a pivotal role organizing #TrumpProofSeattle workshops all over the city, and Sawant, who Charles apparently hasn't noticed pushing #TaxTheRich ever since her first election, along with Herbold and O'Brien pushing it through to a unanimous vote by the entire council. Even Ed Murray endorsed it, so why the gratuitous blast of shade at Sawant? SMH.

I didn't even know Sawant was trying to take credit until this strawman article. She and the SA supported it, because it's right in their wheelhouse. But, I thought we all knew it originated from the Transit Riders Union as a poorly thought out cash-in on Democratic disgust whose goals were vaguely defined without even an attempt to lower our regressive taxes. The ill-defined usages of this money is ironic proof that, in Seattle, politicians can ask for a blank check for literally anything with no goals or metrics, and our gullible public will immediately sign a check.

Is this article just to drag Sawant for some reason? Is this just clickbait? Is Chaz mad that "Tax the Rich" is a more reliable slogan than "Trump-proof Seattle" (which has a limited shelf life of 4 or 8 years)? What is going on with this article?

CM Sawant does have the backing of an effective and vigorous constituency. However, the idea for an high-earner's income tax did not originate with her or Socialist Alternative. The impressive coalition that TRU and EOI brought together was the reason this initiative succeeded. So, let's give credit where credit is due.

That said, the backing of SA also helped. Coalitions are where change is going to come from these days. Bravo to all who stepped up and supported this. I hope they will keep their "eyes on the prize" and continue to be vigilant as the fight is not yet over.

Y'know, Charles, Sawant didn't initiate the drive for $15, either-- she was a bandwagonner on that as well.

You're getting too old for this job; things, important things, are just falling out of your head as if they were never there.

@3 Well said and accurate. Ditto.

Sawant and the Alt-Left. Strong enough to lose elections for the Left, but not strong enough to win them.
8
@7 Yeah...the progressive left loses all the elections! You know, except for Sawant.

And Pramila Jayapal.
9
@8 Jaypal is a "progressive" Democrat.

Sawant is not a "progressive". Sawant is a shock doctrine socialist with a fantasy she will be there to pick up the pieces when everything goes to shit. Almost any good thing she can't take over from Democrats, she will undercut them on.
10
Good shout out to the originators Charles. I support Sawant.

Sawant and Trump actually have alot of similarities. They both know how to manipulate the press, politicians, and people into getting them publicity and winning elections.

Please wait...
