I was so pleased to hear about this on the news yesterday morning. It's been a long time since I uttered a "fuck you" as venomous as the one that I did after one of their representatives claimed that this measure was "religious persecution." Of course, the woman was also admitting that such measures are necessary in doing so, but wasn't intelligent enough to realize it.
Gross, I had no idea these existed in King County. I thought these were more of an Eastern Washington/Southern/Mid-West thing. Glad to see the County taking action.
King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert sat on the Board that was considering this measure, and was incredbily cluesless and/or insensitive on a number of points.
While discussing the issue of requiring Limited Service Pregnancy Centers to have signs disclose - in multiple languages - that fact that they are not actually medical facilities, she complained that she didn't understand why the list of languages included some languages that she didn't recognize.
I get the need for multiple perspectives when discussing public policy. It's just disappointing that someone so offensive could be elected to do so.
CSB:
A friend of mine in Florida used to go to PP centers that had those crisis pregnancy places next to them. The activists outside would beg her not to get an abortion. My friend would say she was poor and couldn't afford a kid but if they (the activists) gave her money she'd keep the kid. She actually made some semi-decent weekend cash this way. A few hundred bucks at times.
She was never pregnant, she just thought it was a good way to scam some weekend party money. I thought it was hilarious.
