Why do we refer to the US Chamber of Commerce as "the Chamber." It's not a chamber of government. It's a lobbying group. It shouldn't be referred to as "the Chamber" but as "the lobbyists" at best, although "CoC" is vastly preferable as proper shorthand.

I kinda like that itā€™s referred to as ā€œthe Chamberā€. It preserves the sinister connotations associated with ā€œtorture chamberā€, ā€œgas chamberā€ and ā€œchamber of horrorsā€. Why whitewash an evil cabal with an innocuous acronym?
