Why do we refer to the US Chamber of Commerce as "the Chamber." It's not a chamber of government. It's a lobbying group. It shouldn't be referred to as "the Chamber" but as "the lobbyists" at best, although "CoC" is vastly preferable as proper shorthand.

I kinda like that it’s referred to as “the Chamber”. It preserves the sinister connotations associated with “torture chamber”, “gas chamber” and “chamber of horrors”. Why whitewash an evil cabal with an innocuous acronym?
