Before and after leaving Sea-Tac.. Charles Mudede

If you have not flown into or out of Seattle, then you don't now how thick the haze really is. We are in a cloud of smoke. And every breath you take fills your lungs with that smoke. Seattle's hazy sunsets now transform the sun into a star whose dying light falls on an alien planet. You feel you need a vac suit when leaving a base or a pod. In her post on class and climate change, scientist Sarah Myhre described how she has to close the windows and doors of her home to keep the haze out—but it also keeps the heat in. There is no need to find and fly to an Earth-like planet because adjusting to our planet will be like adjusting to life on another world. We will eventually see that Earth can alienate humans. Earth was once as lifeless and hellish as the moons of Jupiter. Earth is less a place and more a moment in time.
