A seven week term? What's the point?
2
And then they'll appoint Nick Licata. But, at least they'll waste a whole bunch of people's time.

I'm generally a supporter of open government, but this seems kind of a waste of effort. We're so close to the election at this point that it will really just be a placeholder position of almost no consequence. Now with this application process, it will delay it even further. Whoever fills this position will now be there for less than a month and a half.

There are more important open government battles. They should have just given it to Licata and moved on.

@1: My sentiments exactly, except the city charter evidently requires the city council to fill an open council seat within 20 days. So the council's hands are tied.

What we should do is amend the charter to say you can just keep a council seat open if the unexpired term is only for a short time.

Fuck off, Askini. You dropped out of your race because it was pretty clear you weren't going to win. The council should give it to someone who's actually won a citywide election (to first earn the seat-- no Sally fucking Clarks, thanks).

@6: Hey, at least Askini is being consistent. The purpose of the bogus lawsuit against Murray was to drive him from office, and she jumped right onto that bandwagon, demanding the choice of Seattle's voters be overturned by the unverifiable stories of a motley collection of felons.

Having found the voters didn't want her to have power over us, she now asks to be given it for ... what, exactly?

We would be as lucky to get Licata again as we would be unlucky to get Askini. Having seen our democracy subverted once already, I'm not hopeful now.

I'll do it if I can come to meetings with a couple of 40oz. malt liquors and an 8 ball of peruvian flake!

It may not seem like much but, a way to get the foot in the door.
Surprised Peter Steinbruck isn't begging to lick them all where they pee.

@3, there is actually quite a consequence, in that the city is voting on the budget. So this newly appointed for seven weeks person will have a vote on one of the most important things the council does.

Please wait...
