Voyager kicked off UPN as an upstart network in like 1995, and we can all see what a raging sucksess it is today.
That snarked, no way am I paying for yet another subscription platform. After getting nailed for internet service, Netflix, and commercial-free Hulu, another service would have to suck me off on the regular to get my sweet $$$.
Uh...I did watch ST:D and it wasn't all that bad for a new series (think season one of ST:TNG if you don't remember what I mean). The writing was clunky, story not very clear and the show is still needing to gets it's footing. (Unless you think the episode titled "The Naked Now" is somehow brilliant SciFi writing.
Is it worth it to stream it now? No: I'd wait until they get through this first season then wait until Season 2 starts. Watch it all and see if the show starts to improve and if not cancel the subscription.
There was too much exposition in the pilot. Also a visual beacon could not have summoned the Klingons. Most of the ships would still be waiting light years to see the beacon unless the light was faster than light which is something they should have covered.
I'm with @1. As a life-long Trekker literally from Day One, who watched the premiere last night (on Space in Ottowa), my reaction is: visually stunning, decent performances, complete and utter disregard for canon, and flagrant attempts to curry favor with hardcore fans. Might be worth watching, but not worth the extra cost. No wonder CBS killed Axanar, which would have dealt with essentially the same story line, but with 1000 times more respect for canon and continuity.
I didn't read the article or any previous comments but I'm going to take a stab at the question posed by the article's title:
No. No, it is not worth it.
I love Star Trek, and I'd be willing to pay $1 per show. If this is like other shows, there will be about 22 episodes per year, so I'd pay $22. I am not paying $72 per year for 22 episodes. There is nothing else on CBS All Access that I would want to see. I enjoy NCIS LA, but that's available over the air.
I vote no, and hope CBS All Access crumbles and dies. Otherwise, other TV networks will jump on the band wagon.
Note that other than NCIS LA, I don't watch commercial TV, nor do I have cable.
Fuck. That.
And I'm a Star Trek fan from way back, watching it as a kid in the 1960s.

Just sayin'

By that reasoning, the entire run of the original Star Trek was lousy: it only lasted a few seasons!

(Did I guess correctly?)
